The War on Drugs

Lost in the Dream

First released

Lost in the Dream, the third studio album by The War on Drugs, was recorded primarily at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood, California, with additional sessions at other Los Angeles studios. The album was produced by the band themselves alongside John Congleton, known for his work with St. Vincent and Explosions in the Sky, who served as engineer and mixer. The recording sessions took place over several months in 2014 and were characterized by an analog-influenced approach, with the band emphasizing live instrumentation and layered guitar work reminiscent of 1980s stadium rock and Americana influences. Congleton's mixing work was particularly notable for balancing the album's expansive sonic landscape with clarity, creating the atmospheric yet detailed sound that defined the record. Released in March 2014, the album marked a significant commercial and critical breakthrough for the Philadelphia-based band, establishing them as major figures in contemporary rock music.
