Sympathy for the Record Industry — SFTRI 660

White Blood Cells was recorded in late 2001 at Easley-McCain Recording Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, with producer/engineer John Fentimoe. The album was recorded on a budget of approximately $24,000 and captured mostly live performances with minimal overdubs, reflecting Jack White's preference for raw, energetic takes. The stripped-down production approach emphasized the duo's guitar-and-drums dynamic with prominent use of distortion and feedback. Recording took place over a short period, preserving the spontaneity and urgency that defined the album's sound. The album was released in June 2003 and became The White Stripes' breakthrough success internationally.
