Moondance — Van Morrison

Van Morrison

Moondance

First released

Moondance was recorded at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California between 1969 and 1970, following Van Morrison's move to California after leaving Belfast. The album was produced by Van Morrison himself along with engineer Ted Templeman, who would become known for his work with The Doobie Brothers and other major acts. Morrison worked with a skilled session musician ensemble including saxophonist Jack Schroer and drummer Gary Mallaber, creating the album's sophisticated jazz and soul-influenced sound. The recording sessions were characterized by a more relaxed and confident approach compared to Morrison's previous work, reflecting his increased artistic control and clearer musical vision. The album's polished production and seamless blend of rock, soul, and jazz established a new creative peak for Morrison and became one of his most commercially successful and critically acclaimed works.
