The album was produced by the band members themselves along with David Rubinson, a renowned producer known for his work with Earth, Wind & Fire and Herbie Hancock. The recording featured the classic Weather Report lineup of Joe Zawinul on keyboards, Wayne Shorter on saxophones, Jaco Pastorius on bass, Peter Erskine on drums, and Naná Vasconcelos on percussion. The sessions showcased advanced studio technology of the era, with particular emphasis on layered synthesizer arrangements and multitrack recording techniques that would define the album's fusion-heavy sound.
