Sky Blue Sky, Wilco's sixth studio album, was recorded at The Loft in Chicago and various other locations between 2006 and 2007. The album was produced by the band themselves alongside Jeff Tweedy, with mixing contributions from Tom Schick and others. The recording process emphasized live instrumentation and a return to more straightforward songwriting after the experimental approaches of previous albums like A Ghost Is Born. Tweedy and the band made deliberate creative choices to strip back production and focus on melody and band dynamics, resulting in a warmer, more accessible sound. The album marked a significant shift in Wilco's aesthetic, moving away from electronic experimentation toward a roots-rock and alt-country influenced approach.
